5 Minute Tidy
Habit #20 in my 30 day journey
“normal person’s weekly chore list:
1. clean kitchen.
2. clean bathroom.
3. clean entire rest of domicile.
cleaning impaired person’s weekly chore list:
1. don’t get peanut butter on sheets.”
― Dave Barry
The first thing to take a hit when I began writing here was the general tidiness of my house. Who wants to clean when it will just need doing again at some point. I write a story and it stays written. Much more satisfying.
I do, however, draw the line at filth, and unfortunately, clutter bothers me so a certain amount of housekeeping must occur.
The pandemic didn’t help. You might think being home all the time would lead to plenty of time for cleaning. Instead, it leads to more people living in the house 24/7 and no one ever feeling motivated to tidy.
With no one coming over to visit there is never a need to get the entire house or even just the public areas of it thoroughly clean at any given time.
I tried to get all religious about it and gave up dusting for lent, but I have to acknowledge that Easter has come and gone and there are still a lot of dust bunnies floating around.
Habit #20 is adding in a five-minute tidy to each afternoon. I’ll set a timer for five minutes and do as much picking up, dusting, etc. as I can get done. Hopefully, this will help keep the clutter and dust bunny monster at bay.
