A miracle has occurred and everyone in the family has a free Saturday. It has been too long since you did something fun together as a family so everyone agrees this Saturday will be family day.

But how do you decide what to do? Everyone has a different idea and if Mom or Dad just picks someone is going to feel like a winner and someone is going to be grumpy and that does not lead to a fun family time.

Here is the secret that has worked for my family of 5.

Step 1: Brainstorm

Everyone thinks of all the possible family activities that could be done. No one is allowed to criticize or reject an idea at this point. Write them all down.

Step 2: Eliminate the Impossible/Impractical

Go over the list and cross off anything that you can’t pull off for whatever reason (too expensive, too far away, etc.).

Step 3: Campaign Season

Everyone gets a shot to campaign for or against the activities remaining on the list.

Step 4: Vote
