9 Ways to Take This Job and Love it
How do you find peace and happiness in a job you would rather not be doing?
Do you ever dream of walking away from your current job and blowing up the bridges behind you? It’s a fun fantasy, but when that isn’t feasible, how can you find ways to be happy where you are instead?
The bar was full of coworkers and their spouses gathered for a let your hair down social event. The karaoke was going strong when the newest member of the team grabbed the mic and started belting out, “Take This Job and Shove It.”
His voice wasn’t half bad but the song was an odd choice for his first social occasion including those above and below him in the chain of command. Most of us wait at least a few weeks on the job before embracing that particular theme. Even then we reserve it for the shower, the drive home, or pitched perfectly at work so as to catch only the ear of our sympathetic coworker and make them laugh.
The song is popular for a reason. We all have days like that even in jobs we love. There is a time to ditch the day job and set out to live the dream and there is a time to embrace that steady paycheck and make the best of things. The former of those two options is more exciting but it isn’t always the best choice.
