Elon Musk is planning to X out Twitter. Will it happen? Will this finally kill the bird that has been declared mostly dead every few weeks for the last several months? Who knows, but everyone agrees Elon’s bird isn’t the same beast we all used to love.

I adored Twitter. It was a party where famous people, journalists, experts, and Ms. Average — no one would glance twice at me walking down the street — mingled freely rising or falling on the strength of their written word, wit, and cat photos.

Twitter was my go-to for breaking news, light reading, and entertainment. I loved the randomness of it all, a bleak take on climate change followed by funny workplace antics. I learned, laughed, and loved and more importantly grew to appreciate or at least understand perspectives far removed from my everyday life.

Twitter’s a shadow of its former self. The time has come to move on. I’ve tried Mastodon, Post, Spoutible, and Spill. I’m willing to try Bluesky if anyone gives me an invite. I’ve dabbled in Redditt, Facebook, and Tumbler. None of these are scratching my Twitter itch, but it’s time to admit Twitter isn’t anymore either.
