Climbing the Stairway to Health

Reflections on habit #19 in my journey

Taking the stairs provides benefits much greater than the level of effort expended. I love this habit.

Like all of my successful new habits, this one fits neatly and easily into my day. Instead of using the downstairs toilet that is right by my office, I use the upstairs one. I drink tea continually while working so I take numerous bathroom breaks.

There are obvious physical benefits to going up and down a flight of stairs numerous times a day. One month in I can tell my stamina is increased and my muscles are stronger when I hike up and down the hills near my home.

There are mental benefits as well. Like pushups and planks, taking to the stairs makes me feel virtuous. I’m the sort of person who adds a bit of exertion to her routine. Look at me being healthy. Positive self-talk like this keeps me on track in inching myself towards a healthier more active lifestyle after my couch potato pandemic ways.

I’ve increased productivity as well. Getting my body moving in between extended periods at the keyboard is great. I sit back down refreshed and ready to refocus.

15 out of 19 for habits I’m holding on to.
