Daily Prayer is a Gift Not an Obligation
Reflecting on habit #4 in my 30-day journey
Prayer is not an old woman’s idle amusement. Properly understood and applied, it is the most potent instrument of action.
Prayer is a very personal thing. Who you pray to, how you pray, where, and what you pray for. All of these are highly individual.
Prayer happens in so many ways throughout the day. A walk can be prayer. Playing music can be prayer. A brief burst of praise or an inward call for help in a difficult situation is also prayer.
Anytime I am consciously recognizing a power outside of and greater than myself I am praying. But prayer is also a deep dive into my innermost self and reflecting on my own essence and place in this world.
I’ve missed communal prayer during the pandemic. Sitting in an old stone church and repeating in unison prayers as has been done in that location for centuries is a gift. It is good to have that back as my church has started in-person services again as we slowly and carefully open up.
