Does Doing Planks Every Day Make a Difference?

Reflecting on Habit #2 from my 30-day journey

One month ago I started doing planks every day, multiple times a day. My first day I was able to hold a plank in proper form for 60 seconds. Today I made it to 75 seconds.

Not as impressive of a gain as I would have hoped for but a gain is a gain and I’ll take it. Not only that but I wasn’t starting fresh as I forgot that I wanted to time it so it was my second set of planking for the day.

Increasing my plank duration was not necessarily one of my goals. Throughout the month I did a plank every time I got up from the computer during the working day. I never timed myself and I generally held position until discomfort but not extreme discomfort.

Most often I did a plank while my tea was reheating using the 30-second button on the microwave so most of my planks were half a minute long. Sometimes I would forget to plank after getting up but I probably got in 5 planks of at least 30 seconds each day.

I love this habit and will definitely be keeping it.

My arms are much stronger and I no longer feel twinges of back pain. Not only can I tell the planks are good for my body, but they are also good for my mind. I feel a sense of accomplishment each time I drop to the floor.
