Habit #4 in my 30 day journey

“The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.”
Soren Kierkegaard

I’ve gotten out of the habit of setting aside a specific time in the day for personal prayer. It’s not that I’ve stopped praying. It’s more that my prayers are in short bursts throughout the day as I think of something or someone I want to pray for.

There is nothing wrong with prayer on the fly. But I know from past experience I’m really missing out when I don’t set aside time to quiet my spirit, catch my breath and focus.

Pray isn’t offering up a bucket list of requests and wishes. It’s slowing down and letting God show me what’s really on my heart.

Most world religions practice some form of prayer, meditation, or mindfulness. Life moves quickly. Anyone can benefit from pressing the pause button. Taking even just a few minutes to let your thoughts flow free.

I’m going to tie my new daily prayer habit to brushing my teeth. After I brush my teeth, I’ll sit in the comfy chair in my bedroom. I’ll take a deep breath, look out at the valley before me and thank God for his creation. Then I’ll close my eyes and pray.
