First off, I think you should be very proud of that many views for your first Medium story.

The keys to any story here are title, opening, content and organization. You usually need all four to do well unless you bring a huge following with you.

Your title confused me. Essentially you wrote a story about why I "should" follow you, what to expect from your writing. But from the title using "would" I expected a story about following people in general. Maybe that's just me, but in any case title focused on yourself don't tend to do well here.

Begging for reads rarely work either. You had genuinely interesting stuff in your story and a promising voice. That's what gets follows. Be funny and I'll follow. Tell me you are funny so I should follow and I likely won't keep reading long enough to see if you are telling the truth.

Which bring me to the opening. Telling me your writing is worthy of my time isn't a compelling opening. Write something in the first couple of sentences that IS worth my time and I'll keep reading.

Starting with the eagle poster would have been great. Your observations were spot on and funny. Then you could have segued into the bit about stamp collecting. Finally at the end you could include your bit about "this is the kind of entertaining stuff I plan to write about here."
