From everything I've read of your parenting style it sounds pretty similar to the way I raised my three. Mine were big "why" askers but I never really got this question until young adulthood we we've reflected as adults together on their childhood.

Most kids get different parenting styles from their two parents. It may be only a slight difference or it may be a huge chasm but still it will be different. Add in grandparents, extended family, babysitters, friends, etc. and there are a whole slew of differences. I think kids realize from a very early age that people are different from each other.

The real challenge is people who try to discipline your kids in a way you don't want them to. Like grandparents who want to spank, aunts who want to yell. You need to protect your kid from those people but otherwise, the random "No, stop, naughty," aimed near or even at them in the park will roll right over them. It's what the people they love most do and say that matters.
