God is Totally Cool With Debt Forgiveness so Why Aren’t You?

Guess why I’m excited about the student loan debt forgiveness recently announced by the White House? Is it because I personally will benefit? No, my ginormous student loan debt was paid off years ago. Is it because my three kids will get help? Nope, we paid every penny of their college costs ourselves.

I’m thrilled because this is one of the most literally Bible-based actions to ever come out of the United States government. As a Christian, I totally approve.

The Bible just won’t shut up about forgiving debts

Many Christians in politics love to say they oppose abortion or LGBTQ rights because they believe in the literal truth of the Bible. If you read the entire Bible very carefully you will find a handful of passages that address these topics. I’d argue the message of those texts isn’t really as clear as they think it is but that’s an article for another day.

You know what is crystal clear from Genesis to Revelation, and mentioned over and over and over? God hates it when rich people lord it over poor people. God gives and wants his people to give second chances. Debt forgiveness comes up many…
