Many years ago I resolved never to bother with New Year’s resolutions, and I’ve stuck with it ever since. — Dave Beard

There is one perfect rule for New Year’s resolutions: They must be enjoyable.

Of course, I’d like to lose weight, exercise more, drink less, connect with family and friends, blah, blah, blah, but I’m not making resolutions about any of those things.

I flipped the script on resolutions several years ago when New Year’s Eve found me standing in front of the overstuffed game closet choosing one.

“Why do we own so many games but always play the same ones over and over? That’s it. This year we are going to play every single game in this closet and decide whether to keep it or not. At the end of the year, any we haven’t played are going to the thrift store.”

Best resolution ever! We had tons of great family play time, organized and winnowed down the game collection, and moved some games we had outgrown on to families who would show them the love they deserved. Win, win, win.

The following year we resolved to eat at as many ethnic restaurants as possible. Bonus points were awarded if we were the only white people…
