I agree with tattoo girl that a story doesn't necessarily need an explicit purpose or lesson. This is a highly relatable story of failing to live up to expectations when everyone else around you seems to have no trouble.

Titles are everything here as you already noted. Think in terms of intriguing a reader in a way that fits the story. In this case I'd go with something based on Boy Scouts and Fraud or Unearned.

Entertainment is a value for the reader. You want to tap into universal emotions ideally in both the title and the story.
