I agreed wholeheartly. We (white Americans) took our children to Hiroshima and the museum there at age 8, 10, and 12. We really debated whether that was too much but felt the opportunity was important. I'll never forget finding out about the US Japanese internment camps as a teenager (by doing my own reading not taught in school or by parents) and being devastated not only that my beloved country could do this but that my parents and teachers were so quick to excuse it and were unwilling to discuss it. We must do better.
