I have an easy litmus test for family members. Do they call my child by her proper name and pronouns despite voting for politicians who would make it illegal for her to use the bathroom? Do they treat her with love and respect at all times? It kills me (metaphorically) that they'd vote for supporters of policies that might kill her (literally) and I'll call them out for it all day long but if they in person love and respect her we can remain in relationship. I'm still hopeful I can slowly shift minds.
