I made the mistake of reading something of mine aloud to the family over the holidays. Dead silence. Then criticism. It gutted me. One of my kids reads and occasionally writes here and it is so life giving to have her support. As to the rest of them, most of what I write just isn't their style and I'm learning to be okay with that.

My spouse is fine with supporting my writing, just not interested in reading it himself. I'm sorry your guy is being such a jerk.
