I think every writer has to determine their own style. It's true that some styles are more popular than others and by sticking to what is less popular you may be choosing a smaller reach but if that's what makes you more fulfilled as a writer that is your choice. I'd hate to be in a world of cookie cutter writers only. You do you. No one else can.
