I totally agree.

 and is infinit…inda embarrassing, actually — it’s not like we don’t have more pressing things to be worried about. But stories have always had an outsized hold over me. Thinking about them feels more productive than alternatives like Climate Change or politics, and is infinitely more fun.

I totally agree. And I'd even argue that fiction holds way more promise for changing minds than political debate on social media. Story is powerful.
