In the 1800s pumpkin was the clear choice of those against slavery. Pumpkins were the humble vegetable grown on small farms by the salt of the earth family farmer. Large plantations exploiting enslaved people kidnapped or descended from those kidnapped from Africa didn’t bother with growing the simple pumpkin.
Serving pumpkin pie was a form of boycott, of virtue signaling for those in the North at least for some abolitionists.
Sorry racists, hate to spoil your day. (Really not sorry).
Maybe you think you should switch to sweet potato pie instead. That’s a southern thing right? Long live the south. Go, Dixie!
