Ironically enough, you give yourself the best advice of all right here. You need to knock this story into pieces and create several new ones. There is all kinds of great material but it is too jumbled together and rambling.

The cancer diagnosis example is a good one and fleshing that out separately would make a good story. Each of the books you looks at could use its own deep dive. I would use this as source material to create several new stories.

Just because Medium doesn't really do series anymore doesn't mean it doesn't work to write a series of related stories. You can link to the other stories within the base of your story or put them all in a list and share the list at the bottom.
