It's astounding how much damage one uncaring person can do to a family in the end stages of a loved one's life. When my dad was dying at home with hospice care we had a back up nurse visit who turned us all off. She was very woo woo spiritual. Death is a privilege we are so lucky to witness, blah, blah, blah. insisted on talking to my dad about going to be with his ancestors and becoming part of the great cosmos of love. My dad was a Christian pastor. He did not appreciate the new age lecture. Nothing nearly as offensive as what you experienced but still left a bad taste in our mouths. We are convinced he held on to life so that his regular beloved hospice nurse was there when he died.
