It's been fun to read this post of yours because I am the opposite place as you right now. The world is scary enough and I want happy endings, gosh dang it. I read something lately (can't recall the title) which started promisingly this will all end well and closed with doom and gloom and I was not happy.

Just goes to show there is something for everyone and many readers cycle through wanting different things at different times and get annoyed if the writer gives them something there didn't expect.
