The Hammer & the Heart
Catherine DeJager recommended this album by Susan Cattaneo. Apple music label it country so I didn’t have high hopes despite my close relationship with the recommender. Country music is not my thing. Really not my thing. No judgment. We all have different tastes and that’s fine.
It was nice and had some pleasant moments. I enjoyed listening while I walked along the beach. At least I enjoyed listening until a big wave caught me by surprise and splashed over the top of one of my wellies.
Catherine would have appreciated my wet sock had she been present given the number of times I’ve warned her and then sighed heavily while walking back to the car with my feet dry and hers wet.
I suppose being so caught up in the music and the moment you end up with water down your wellies is a mark of a quality album. Cattaneo has a lovely voice and the poetry of her lyrics often made my mind wander in the best ways.
This is not a trucks, women, whiskey and toxic masculinity album. Not that country music has a corner on that. I listen to…
