Making My Bed Makes Me Smile

Reflecting on habit #25 in my journey

I thought daily bed-making was a pointless habit for me. I added it to my list as I was running out of ideas for my habit-building challenge. After a month of duvet smoothing and pillow fluffing, I’ve moved from the agnostic to the faithful column.

Making the bed first thing in the morning has not changed my life. At most, it is a tiny tick on the positive side of daily accounting. But it also requires very little effort. Any positive tick, no matter how tiny, which is fast and painless belongs on my daily list of habits.

I can’t deny I prefer seeing a made bed if I have occasion to go into my room during the day. It does bring me a small twinge of accomplishment. Much as I hate going with conventional wisdom, often what everyone else says is correct. Making your bed in the morning is a good habit.

19 out of 25 habits are here for the long term.
