Should You Give Up Something for Lent?

Most Governments are giving up COVID. Hallelujah?

Last year on Ash Wednesday, I wrote about how it had been a tough year living under Covid and suggested we might all want to give ourselves a break rather than pushing ourselves.

What I’m really giving up for Lent is the guilt. This is not a normal time, I’m telling myself. The year of Covid has been a long tiring road and it is not over. Clean or don’t clean. Who cares. The burden of this past year is heavy.

One year later the burdens are still immense. Ukraine is being invaded by a ruthless dictator. World War 3 and/or nuclear annihilation are real possibilities. In the USA, white supremacists are no longer hiding in the shadows but stand out and proud, applauded by congressmen and others in authority.

Would be fascists in all levels of government are using every tool they can find to try to wipe LGBTQ people out of existence. Texas has started criminal investigations against loving parents who seek to follow the advice of doctors. School boards across the…
