Spring is here with its flowers, lambs, ducklings and steps. So many steps!

Okay, the steps are always here but with more pleasant spring and summer weather we get out to walk much more often and a trip to the coast path will invariably involve lots of steps like these to get to and from beaches.

The better shape my legs are in the easier it is to take these steps and the more enjoyable each hike is.

So I’m going to add some step training into my quickly expanding list of habits. The plan is pretty simple. I’m going to stop using the toilet right across the hall from my study and instead use the upstairs bathroom during the working day.

Since I drink a lot of tea and have the bladder of a 50 something woman who gave birth three times this will add up to a lot of extra stair climbing throughout the day.

“Stairs,” Valkyrie said, disappointed.
“Not just ordinary stairs,” Skulduggery told her as he led the way down. “Magic stairs.”
“Really?”
“Oh, yes.”
She followed him into the darkness. “How are they magic?”
“They just are.”
“In what way?”
“In a magicky way.”
She glared at the back of his head. “They aren’t magic at all, are they?”
“Not really.”

I’m lucky enough to live near the coast. Which means regular access to magic stairs. After all the stairs above lead to this:
