Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them.
A. A. Milne

Today’s habit is stopping to smell the roses, minus the roses part. I want to be intentional about noticing nature, in particular plant life.

It’s spring which means there is so much fascinating plant life exploding all around me. I live in an area with hedgerows lining all the roads. These hedges are bursting with plant and animal life and are utterly fascinating when you stop to look.

So I plan to stop and look. I’ll look at the little flowers growing wild and free, the buds on my apple tree, the blades of grass, and the hostas just now coming up in my yard. For rainy days I have houseplants that are always worth a closer look.

One of the best things about the first lockdown last year was the restriction of only going out once a day for exercise and only from home forced us to walk our local community. We experienced spring in a much deeper way due to the pandemic. I don’t want to lose that sense of awe and wonder at the power and rhythms of nature.
