Instead he demanded a performance of emotion. In doing so, he conveyed his lack of respect loud and clear: What I was going through couldn’t be that bad. Besides, it didn’t matter. What mattered was that he was in a good mood, and he didn’t want to encounter anyone who felt differently, regardless of whether they were trying to do it quietly in a corner.
