The Stat I Care About Most

This is the stat that tells me if I’m on the right track

I confess I check my stats page way too often. There is something delightful about seeing hard cold evidence that people have actually seen and read the words I’m putting out there. Even if the stats haven’t changed since the last gander, those graphs show that someone did see, someone did read my words.

I started writing on Medium on a bit of a whim, on a trial basis. I’ll just put some stuff out there and see what happens I told myself. But pretty quickly I was hooked.

I’d like to actually make a go of this and earn a nice little side chunk of change here eventually. But right now I’m paying very little attention to how much money each story gets. This is good because currently, I’m making pennies an hour at best.

I’ve had one story go viral by my standards. It’s currently at 1.7 views and 1.4 reads. Despite that, it has earned me a grand total of 35¢. The story is low earning because all the traffic is coming from Facebook. Here it is if you'd like to read it.
