The Sun Rises and Sets Every Day: I’m Going to Watch It

Habit #27 in my 30-day journey

They who dwell in the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs;
You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy. — Psalm 65:8 NASB

Every day, twice a day, nature puts on a spectacular show. The sun comes up or dips down over the horizon and paints a dazzling picture of color. Sure some days it’s overcast with little to see but most days where I live there is at least a little beauty to take in.

This habit feels a bit like cheating because I already head to the beach to watch the sunset at least once or twice a week. But I’m going to up that to daily. Some days I may just glance out my window, but I’m not going to let it pass unnoticed.

It’s much easier now that the days are long and sunset occurs after dinner and dishes are done and sorted. Heading out for sunset even helps me keep on track for habit #10, walking. How better to end the day than a sunset walk on the beach?

I’m throwing sunrise into the mix too because when I’m up early enough the view from my bedroom window is often glorious. Right now the sun comes up around 6 am and will only move earlier for some time so I probably won’t catch many sunrises but I’m throwing it in here for good luck and future reference.

Obviously, some days won’t have a visible sunset. But even on those days, I’m going to make a point of checking and at least sparing a moment’s thought for the utter and complete dependability of the sun.
