There's a lot of truth here. I'm an eldest daughter but the fourth child which does help. I have a strong memory of when I was a teenager and my mom had gallbladder surgery. She was home from the hospital recovering when one of her friends showed up with a mop and bucket and said, "I'm here to clean your bathrooms and kitchen," and then proceeded to do so. I cried tears of joy. My parents were horrified and tried to stop her. "Mary can do that." After she left they grumbled for a long time at the presumptuousness of showing up to clean someone else's house. I on the other hand considered her a hero.
