This is a nice read. My experiences writing on Medium is that most people have no interest in my nostalgia unless I can tap in to their emotions in some way.
Write with the reader in mind. Why do they care what your favorite place to go is? I would lean in to the world before 9/11 bit because we do have a shared worldwide memory of 9/11. Start with theWindows on the World bit then go back to some of the other sections.
As an expat and world traveler myself, I love to write stories from our long ago travels but to make them commercially viable I find I need to focus on some kind of overarching point to structure the story around and leave out details that matter to me and my family but not to the reader.
Cut ruthlessly anything that doesn't further your narrative.
I really enjoyed reading this as someone who has visited New York both last century and this one.
