Writer profile #1 in my 30 day reading challenge

I’m on the first writer of my 30 days of doing a deep dive on a different writer each day and already I see the problem. I could easily spend all day reading everything Judy Millar has posted.

I’m not quite sure how I’ve never stumbled across her before. Someone who jokes about aging? That’s my kind of people. As I peruse her stories the highlights are like a who’s who of writers I absolutely adore: David Martin, Lon Shapiro, Roz Warren, Bev Potter, Sarah Paris, Bebe Nicholson. I didn’t @ them because I don’t want to be a carpet bomber but if there are any names here you don’t recognize go check them out while you are reading Judy Millar. You’re welcome.

As a woman in my 50s, I’m caught in a time of change and transition. I can look back and lament the figure and smooth skin I’ll never have again, having what feels like endless decades of career and possibilities ahead of me, catching the appreciative eye of admirers. Or I can look forward and embrace the freedom of aging. The time and possibilities opening up even as the years grow shorter. Most importantly I can embrace my growing comfort in my own skin even as that skin starts to wrinkle and spot.

I choose to look ahead and embrace my aging. It helps immensely to have so many awesome…
