Why I Love Twitter and Hope Elon Musk Doesn’t Ruin It

Flaws and all I’d be sad to see it destroyed

Elon Musk is attempting a hostile takeover of Twitter. Whether he will succeed and what will happen to the company if he does is an open question right now. I hope he fails. I owe a lot to Twitter. It has made me better as a person and as a parent.

Don’t get me wrong. Twitter is full of flaws. I could write an entire story on the way Twitter has caused serious damage to society and individuals but those stories are easy to find. I want to focus on what I love.

Twitter has allowed me to be a fly on the wall observing and coming to understand groups I’m not a part of. This has enabled me to interact better with both the people I love and strangers.

We all need a window into the lives of those not like us and used correctly Twitter can help us grow our awareness.

Three groups on Twitter have changed my way of looking at the world and I am grateful: autistic and other neurodiverse people, Black women, and transgender people.

I don’t fall into any of those three categories. But I have close family members who do. I love them dearly and want to support and understand their world. Twitter helps me to do so.
