Yes! This was an excellent explanation of the problem. And to those who argue that we need to keep Twain in to help teach white kids about racism and the reality of it in the past in the deep south, I'm sorry but I'll take the centering the needs of black students over white students when it comes to racism any day. Furthermore, most white teachers in particular are not equipped to teach Huck Finn in a way that is sensitive to black students as well as white. It's like when my child's high school started mandatory emotional health classes in homeroom. Teachers were given curriculum and then supposed to encourage kids to bare their souls in deep conversation. Totally unsafe and dangerous. Save Huck Finn for college or for parents to read with kids at home where they can discuss it without blacks students having to be wounded. There is so much exceptional literature out there why get hung up on a few classics?
