You did well to accept this by age 12.

… to be a vegetarian too until he was old enough to choose for himself. He chose bacon and pepperoni. I realize now that my job is to help him be the person he already arrived as. I can offer tools and suggestions and I’ll advocate like hell for him along the way, but I no longer believe it’s my job to help him become anyone other than himself.
